ANTICIPATING ZARAGOZA 2006

My dear friends and colleagues from overseas, the month of May is close at hand during which the SERAM-CIR Joint Radiology Congress in Zaragoza, Spain will be held.

By this communication, I would like to extend a cordial invitation to every radiologist from the Interamerican College and the Spanish Radiology Society to support this happy initiative with their attendance.

We are working with great excitement and fondness to offer our very best to you.  The scientific program has been carefully planned to include the most current topics in our specialty, that have been assigned to the most reputed experts in America and Spain.  Zaragoza 2006 will be a good window for the best radiology practice of the moment.

The social program is also broad and assorted and will allow us to strengthen our already existing bonds of friendship.  The city, Zaragoza, also has variable and rich cultural and tourism options for our leisure times.   The fact that it is located halfway between the two most important cities in our country, Madrid and Barcelona, makes Zaragoza an adequate starting point to plan possible tours after the Congress.

Everything points to a successful meeting point for every radiology professional in Zaragoza, where the scientific and ludic facet will come together in an effectual way, allowing us to share a few days in friendship and brotherhood that everyone will gladly remember.

In these few lines I would also like to show my appreciation for everyone whose dedication and work have made possible for Zaragoza 2006 to become a reality. It has taken several years of hard work and commitment from a large group or persons, the result of which will be appraised next May...  Our sincere and cordial gratitude for all of them.

Zaragoza, hospitable and friendly city, will welcome you with open arms.

Please, do come.  We shall try to honor you as you deserve.

Luis Ros Mendoza
Coordinator of the International Committee of the Interamerican Collage of Radiology
Vicepresident of the SERAM Scientific of the Zaragoza 2006 Congress

CIR Professors

Who are the CIR professors?

Reputed radiologists with wide teaching expertise nominated by the National Radiology Groups and approved by the CIR Board of Directors, that revises and updates the résumés and list of lectures.

How does the Board of Directors appoint the professors going to the courses?

As of 2004, only professors from the official catalogue are selected.  Half of them are chosen directly by the organizing society.

The other half is chosen by the coordinator from members of the Board of Directors, Vicepresidents or official commissions.  The goal is to have at least one official representative of the College during the event that will be there on behalf of the CIR President during the official activities and that shall interact and promote the College with the members of the local society.  On every occasion, this Professor delivers an official lecture called “The CIR yesterday and today”.

A professor cannot be chosen more than two consecutive years. A year has to elapse before he may once again be chosen.

The current faculty

The current faculty was gathered by Carlos R. Jiménez, M.D., from New Orleans, while he was the Coordinator of the Courses Committee.  We have a registry of 46 professors with their demographics, area of interest, a brief résumé and a list of lectures.

How many professors sponsor the CIR every year?

In 2005, the CIR sponsored 16 professors who went to Courses and Congresses in Tucumán, Argentina; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Cuenca , Ecuador; Panama, Panama and La Paz, Bolivia.

In 2006, we will have a similar number that will go to Cordova Argentina; Guatemala, Cartagena de Indias, Buenos Aires and Guayaquil.

According to the Program, the CIR pays for transportation and the organizing society covers the local expenses.

How are the professors selected?

Every candidate must have high academic standing.  The CIR administrator gives the applicant a form that needs to be filled and returned with the endorsement of the National Society of his or her country.  The applications that are received at the administration office are sent to three persons appointed by the directors for evaluation.  When they are approved, the professors are included in the catalogue
